Snoozing a tab

Open the tab, click the zzzTab icon and choose when you want to see it again: a quick button, a phrase you type, or the calendar. The tab closes and comes back by itself at that time.

You can choose what to snooze: the tab, the selected tabs, the group or the whole window.

You get 5 seconds to undo: until then the tab stays open. If you don’t want that pause, turn off “Undo after snoozing (5 s)” in Settings.

Typing when

Type the way you talk in the box in the popup. Before snoozing, zzzTab shows you which day and time it understood. If it doesn’t understand, it snoozes nothing: it never picks a time for you.

Your morning and afternoon times can be changed in Settings, under “Advanced”. In the popup, the “How to type” link opens a guide with examples you can try live.

When the time comes

The tab opens by itself, in its window and its group. If that window no longer exists, it opens in the one you have. Pinned tabs come back pinned.

A soft sound plays (you can turn it off in Settings) and, if you turned it on, your note appears over the page.

If several tabs are due at once, they open one at a time, a few seconds apart, so they don’t pull you away from what you are doing. If the same page is due twice, it opens once.

If Chrome was closed

An extension can’t wake a closed Chrome, or a computer that is off or asleep. When you open Chrome, zzzTab opens the tabs that came due, one at a time. Nothing is lost: they just arrive when you do.

Your list

Click “Sleeping” in the popup to see everything that is asleep, in order of when it comes back. From there you can open a tab now, change its time, or remove it.

The number on the zzzTab icon is how many tabs are asleep (you can turn it off in Settings).

Import, export and backups

In Settings you will find “Import & export”. Export your list to a file (it includes your settings) and keep it wherever you like, for example to move it to another computer. You can also bring in tabs from other tab-snooze apps with a CSV or JSON file.

Before importing you see a preview, how many are skipped and which ones you already have. Repeats are not duplicated. The file is read inside your browser: it is not uploaded anywhere.

Before every update, zzzTab keeps a copy of your list in the browser. If a sleeping tab is missing after an update, a “Get it back” notice appears. That copy does not survive uninstalling zzzTab or clearing the browser’s data: for that, export now and then.

Only if you turn it on: draw your note over the tab that wakes up. Chrome words it as “read and change data on all sites”; zzzTab only draws the note, it doesn’t read your pages or send anything.
